We are delighted to announce that the Associação F/SOS – Fotografia, Solidariedade e Obras Sociais has officially been accepted as a member of the Portuguese Network of UNESCO Associations and Clubs, following a favourable evaluation by the Assessment Commission and subsequent validation by the Portuguese National Commission for UNESCO.

This recognition marks an important milestone in our journey and reinforces our commitment to using photography, culture and social action as tools for education, inclusion and positive change.

A Recognition of Our Mission

Since its foundation, the Associação F/SOS has believed that photography is far more than an artistic medium. It is a powerful language that can preserve memory, promote dialogue, inspire empathy and contribute to a more informed and inclusive society.

Our projects have consistently sought to create opportunities for cultural participation, encourage social awareness and build bridges between communities. Becoming part of the UNESCO network is a meaningful acknowledgement that these efforts are aligned with the values promoted by UNESCO around the world.

A Shared Commitment

The official communication from the Portuguese National Commission for UNESCO confirms that our application was approved after a comprehensive evaluation process. The next step will be the formal signing of the Protocol establishing the UNESCO Club, which will take place at a mutually agreed date.

Joining this network is not only an honour, it is also a responsibility. As a UNESCO Association and Club, we are committed to actively promoting the principles that define the organisation’s work, including:

  • Human rights and human dignity
  • Cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue
  • Education and lifelong learning
  • Heritage preservation
  • Sustainability and responsible citizenship
  • International cooperation through culture

Looking Ahead

This new chapter strengthens our determination to develop projects that place photography at the service of society. Through exhibitions, festivals, educational programmes and community initiatives, we will continue to create opportunities for reflection, dialogue and cultural participation.

We believe that culture has the power to transform communities, challenge perceptions and bring people together across borders.

Thank You

This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of our members, volunteers, artists, partners, supporters and the many institutions that have believed in our mission over the years.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the Portuguese National Commission for UNESCO for the confidence placed in our association and for welcoming us into this distinguished network.

We look forward to this new journey and to contributing, together with the UNESCO family, towards a more inclusive, sustainable and culturally connected future.
