FSOS Photo Book Club Library

A circular system for building a living photography library

photo books inspire

At FSOS, we believe collecting is not about ownership alone, but about circulation, access, and shared knowledge.

There is a simple idea that guides this initiative:
A thousand books make a library.

Through the F/SOS Photo Book Club Library, we are building a growing, accessible collection shaped by the community, activated through moments of exchange during F/262.

A circular ecosystem

This initiative connects three actions:

  1. F/SOS Photo Book Club Library (F/262 Activation)
Participants bring books to exchange directly, creating a non-monetary circulation of ideas and work.
  2. Prints for Books (Ongoing Exchange)
F/SOS exchanges photographic prints for photobooks, creating a reciprocal and meaningful contribution system.
  3. The F/SOS Library (Long-term Collection)
Books become part of a growing archive reflecting contemporary photography and its community.

How it works

  • Bring a photobook to swap
  • Exchange with participants or FSOS
  • Contribute via donation or print exchange
  • Explore the evolving collection

Why it matters

  • Extends the life cycle of books
  • Encourages reuse over production
  • Supports independent creators
  • Builds a shared cultural resource
  • Promotes responsible consumption

Book exchange initiatives like this are part of a growing global movement that reduces waste while increasing access and community engagement [1][2].

Each book carries not only its content, but the trace of its exchanges.

A library in the making

F/SOS Photo Book Club Library is built through relationships.

Books arrive through swaps.
Through contributions.
Through prints exchanged for publications.

Over time, it becomes a living archive shaped by its community.

FSOS builds the library.
F/262 activates it.

Be part of it.
